Easter Break to Budapest

Over the Easter break, myself and my two best friends traveled to Budapest for a long overdue adventure. Rosie and I flew from Belfast to London on Easter Sunday night, and then stayed at Laura's house, before the three of us flew on to Budapest early on Monday morning. After a quick and easy taxi journey we arrived at our Apartment. Incase anyone is interested, we stayed at the Lord Residence Apartments. I would definitely recommend these apartments to anybody who wants to visit Budapest. They were cheap, spacious, we had our own bathroom, and the staff were extremely helpful. (Just a warning: this is a picture heavy post!)

Our apartment was situated in a very central location and allowed us easy access to all of the main attractions of Budapest. We were only a 5 minute walk from Franz Liszt Square and Jókai Square which was full of restaurants and bars. When we arrived on the Monday we came here after checking in and had a gorgeous lunch at a restaurant called Menza. After taking a nap (it was a really early start, ok?) we went back to the square and then from there we took a walk the streets stopping into random bars for cocktails. My favourite of which was the Rumpus Tiki Bar which was a great Hawaiian Cocktail bar.

The next day we started off by visiting the Szechenyi Baths. The lovely ladies at our Apartments were very helpful and booked the whole thing for us. We decided to go for the spa and 30 minute massage package and we each got our own cabin to change in. I can't remember exactly how much we paid, but I think it worked out at about 14062 huf or 45 euros each.

After taking the tram from Oktagon to Szechenyi we arrived at the baths. The staff at the baths were very helpful, they explained everything we needed to know and made sure we where sorted. The baths were amazing and I would definitely say to add it your itinerary if you are going to Budapest. We all had so much fun and we left feeling so relaxed.

After leaving the baths we decided to take a walk around City Park. During this walk we came across the Vajdahunyad Castle, which has to be one of the most beautiful castles I've ever seen. It seriously looks like it belongs in a Disney film. From here we went to Heroes Square which is the largest Square in Budapest. It contains statues of past Kings and historical figures

That night we decided to take a walk over to Buda. For anyone who doesn't know, Budapest is split into two sides: Buda and Pest and the two are divided by the Danube River. To get from Pest to Buda we walked over the gorgeous Chain Bridge which was the first permanent bridge connecting the two sides. We then took the Budapest Castle Hill Funicular up to the castle were we saw beautiful views over the chain bridge and Pest.

After this we took a stroll through Buda until we reached the Fishermans Bastion. When we arrived at Buda Castle it was still light, but by the time we arrived to Fishermans Bastion it was dark so we were able to get gorgeous night time views of Parliament and Pest. After heading back over to Pest, we walked along Parliament (such a stunning building) before having the best dinner of our trip. Unfortunately I can not for the life of me remember the name of the restaurant which really is a shame because it was so good.

Wednesday was our final day of our trip, and we decided to start it off with a visit to Margaret Island. After buying some croissants and juices we jumped onto the tram and headed to the island for our breakfast. We wandered around the island for a while and just took in the gorgeous views around us before heading back into Pest. We then decided to head down to the more touristy part of Budapest to buy some souvenirs and for a look around. We started off by looking around the food market, before stopping for lunch at a cafe just outside. Then we took a walk up Váci utca to have a little bit of a shop. We ended our day with a lovely dinner before heading back to collect our luggage and leave for the aiport.
